Life is Good. Ducks Quack, Eagles Soar

Life is Good. Ducks Quack, Eagles Soar

No one can make you serve customers well.
That's because great service is a choice.

Harvey Mackay, tells a wonderful story about a cab driver that proved this point.

He was waiting in line for a ride at the airport. When a cab pulled up, the first thing Harvey noticed was that the taxi was polished to a bright shine. Smartly dressed in a white shirt, black tie, and freshly pressed black slacks, the cab driver jumped out and rounded the car to open the back passenger door for Harvey.

He handed my friend a laminated card and said: 'I'm Wally, your driver.

While I'm loading your bags in the trunk I'd like you to read my mission statement.'

Taken aback, Harvey read the card.

It said: Wally's Mission Statement: To get my customers to their destination in the quickest, safest and cheapest way possible in a friendly environment.

This blew Harvey away. Especially when he noticed that the inside of the cab matched the outside. Spotlessly clean!

As he slid behind the wheel, Wally said, 'Would you like a cup of coffee?

I have a thermos of regular and one of decaf.'

My friend said jokingly, 'No, I'd prefer a soft drink.'

Wally smiled and said, 'No problem. I have a cooler up front with regular and Diet Coke, water and orange juice.'

Almost stuttering, Harvey said, 'I'll take a Diet Coke.'

Handing him his drink, Wally said, 'If you'd like something to read, I have The Wall Street Journal, Time, Sports Illustrated and USA Today.'

As they were pulling away, Wally handed my friend another laminated card, 'These are the stations I get and the music they play, if you'd like to listen to the radio.'

And as if that weren't enough, Wally told Harvey that he had the air conditioning on and asked if the temperature was comfortable for him.

Then he advised Harvey of the best route to his destination for that time of day. He also let him know that he'd be happy to chat and tell him about some of the sights or, if Harvey preferred, to leave him with his own thoughts..

'Tell me, Wally,' my amazed friend asked the driver, 'have you always served customers like this?'

Wally smiled into the rear view mirror. 'No, not always: In fact, it's only been in the last two years. My first five years driving, I spent most of my time complaining like all the rest of the cabbies do. Then I heard on the radio one day that if you get up in the morning expecting to have a bad day, you'll rarely disappoint yourself. He said, 'Stop complaining!
Differentiate yourself from your competition. Don't be a duck. Be an eagle. Ducks quack and complain. Eagles soar above the crowd.''

That hit me right between the eyes,' said Wally. 'That was really talking about me. I was always quacking and complaining, so I decided to change my attitude and become an eagle. I looked around at the other cabs and their drivers.. The cabs were dirty, the drivers were unfriendly, and the customers were unhappy. So I decided to make some changes. I put in a few at a time. When my customers responded well, I did more.'

'I take it that has paid off for you,' Harvey said.

'It sure has,' Wally replied. 'My first year as an eagle, I doubled my income from the previous year. This year I'll probably quadruple it.
You were lucky to get me today. I don't sit at cabstands anymore. My customers call me for appointments on my cell phone or leave a message on my answering machine. If I can't pick them up myself, I get a reliable cabbie friend to do it and I take a piece of the action.'

Wally was phenomenal.. He was running a limo service out of a Yellow Cab.

I've probably told that story to more than fifty cab drivers over the years, and only two took the idea and ran with it. Whenever I go to their cities, I give them a call. The rest of the drivers quacked like ducks and told me all the reasons they couldn't do any of what I was suggesting.

Wally the Cab Driver made a different choice. He decided to stop quacking like ducks and start soaring like eagles.

Something to think about. I really liked this little story! Let's all try to soar like eagles!

Thanksgiving..things I am thankful for.

First I love Holidays! I love them. Here are a few things I am thankful for.

1. My Family-I have the best Brother and Sisters I am lucky to call them my best friends. I have parents that love unconditional and love me for me. I am also lucky to have great sister and brothers in law. I am so bless to have a great family who loves me and let's me spend time with them.
2. The Gospel- I am so blessed to have the gospel in my life and to know that I will have my family for eternity. I am also grateful for repentance, that the gospel is perfect and we are only human and that we are given a chance to learn to be perfect. I am also so blessed to be teaching the CTR 5's they have so much light. I love going to church for this reason. I have around 8-10 boys every week and it makes me so happy. We are truly blessed to have such a great example in our lives.
3. My Job-Most days I am not loving my job, but I love the people I work with. I have the best department-so good a lot of people always try to get hired in our area. I am Glad that I know what I know and that I can be responsible for myself. I love being in charge of my life.
4. The Land- It has been so beautiful lately that you have to look around and see all the beautiful things around you. I love fall weather, I love the smell of rain, I love the different colors of leaves, the way the mountains look after snow falls. It is so pretty!

Misty's I know AMAZING!

Kyle's Pretty Awesome!

Every year we get together to do our pumpkin carving, and every year I just don't have the patients to carve something hard. This year I decided to carve something hard. I think it turned out pretty cool. I don't know if I will do it again- but it was fun to challenge myself. Misty and Kyle always out do themselves, they are pretty amazing pumpkin carvers. We missed Kendra and Shean this year. We were thinking about you and hope you carved some pumpkins of your own. HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYONE!

Book list

I have been reading some of the best books...So I thought I would share.

One my favorite author Sophie Kinsella-Twenties Girl

I have loved every book she writes I think she is funny and writes really well. Beware she does swear in her books. Great British comedy. I love it.

2. Author Gennifer Choldenko-Al Capone Does My Shirts

Thanks to Michelle for introducing this fun read. I need to read the second book now. So cute!

3.Author Jule Powell-Julie and Julia

I saw the movie first before I bought the book. I thought it was such a cute movie I wanted to read more about the author. That night after I saw the movie I got unto her blog and she had such a funny way of writing I got sucked in. I bought the book and I realized she loves to swear. I mean she swears a lot. So if you don't like to read a lot of swearing this book is not for you. But she is a great writer with a since of humor like mine.

4.Author Jeannette Walls (The Glass Castle)-she has writen a second book I just bought called Half Broke Horses. I really like The Glass Castle so I bought this one. I am not finished with this one, but again super good! I can't belive the struggle some families go through. Jeannette's grandma (this book is about her mom and grandma) An amazing lady this is someone I would like to follow-she never lets anything get in her way!

Anyways just a few good reads that I have read and going to read. Happy Reading Everyone!

Marissa's Hair...

I have been wanting to color Marissa's hair for some time now, and I finally did it. I had a hard time picking out a color and thought maybe BLUE/RED/PINK, but then I thought of Michelle who would probably kill me if I did that to her daughter so I stuck with a Caramel color that turned out so cute! I love Marissa's hair it is so pretty! I love that she like to spend time with me and we have such a great time together. I sure do love this girl!!!!

Laser, camp out, stuff..

I finally did it. I told Kent that I would blog things going on in my life so I finally got Laser hair removal. I am so happy about it. I got my legs, armpits, bikini done. :) This was something I have been thinking about doing for a long time now, I just finally made an appointment and did it. I still have 4 more times to go but I think it is going to be the best thing I have done in a long time! Just think NO more shaving again! ME VERY HAPPY!!!

Camp out- was so much fun! Well, to tell you the truth it didn't start off to fun for my parents, but if they don't tell the story then I will. But by the time I got there things started to turn for the better. (I think it's because I finally got there) ;) Anyways I have pictures that I will post later- I don't want to get my camera. I know, I know call me lazy- but it's true.

Work is great right now. I am learning things almost everyday which I think is great. I love the people I work with. I think that makes or breaks your job. So I am really lucky to have great people I work with.

Last week I had the nasty flu. Yes it was coming out both ends- I have always said that I would die if that happened to me and it did. It was terrible!!! That is all I can say about that. I don't want the flu again ever! Now I can no longer eat chicken pot pie! :( makes me very sad!

Well, there you go things going on in my life- sorry if it was a little TMI-but your family and friends so I am fine with it!
Love to all! M

FOOT in the Mouth moments...

I know that every one has had a moment when they put there foot in there mouth. Well my mom had a moment like that tonight and I could not stop laughing from it. It made me think of all the times I put my foot in my mouth. I hate moments like that. For example "When are you due" What your not pregnant? foot in the mouth...How many time do we have to learn this over and over until we stop and think about what we are going to say instead of opening our big mouths and say what ever pops out. Then after the foot in the mouth moment happens you are kicking yourself for a while after the fact. I can think of many times this has happened to me, I can probably take a whole page of writing about it. The fact is, I would like to NEVER remember my foot in the mouth moments. It's just part of life and we learn to hopefully keep our mouths shut and think before we say something. I don't think this will happen but for now I am going to laugh at others for putting there foot in there mouth moments. And hopefully not have so many moments myself. :)

3% Peroxide....Who knew?

3% peroxide

This was written by Becky Ransey of Indiana'I would like to tell you of the benefits of that plain little old bottle of 3% peroxide you can get for under $1.00 at any drug store. My husband has been in the medical field for over 36 years, and most doctors don't tell you about peroxide, or they would lose thousands of dollars.

1. Take one capful (the little white cap that comes with the bottle) and hold in your mouth for 10 minutes daily, then spit it out. (I do it when I bathe)No more canker sores and your teeth will be whiter without expensive pastes. Use it instead of mouthwash. (Small print says mouth wash and gargle right on the bottle)
2. Let your toothbrushes soak in a cup of 'Peroxide' to keep them free of germs.
3. Clean your counters, table tops with pe roxide to kill germs and leave a fresh smell. Simply put a little on your dishrag when you wipe, or spray it on the counters.
4. After rinsing off your wooden cutting board, pour peroxide on it to kill salmonella and other bacteria.
5. I had fungus on my feet for years - until I sprayed a 50/50 mixture of peroxide and water on them (especially the toes) every night and let dry.
6. Soak any infections or cuts (that's on the bottle also) in 3% peroxide for five to ten minutes several times a day. My husband has seen gangrene that would not heal with any medicine, but was healed by soaking in peroxide.
7. Fill a spray bottle with a 50/50 mixture of peroxide and water and keep it in every bathroom to disinfect without harming your septic system like bleach or most other disinfectants will.
8. Tilt your head back and spray into nostrils with your 50/50 mixture whenever you have a cold, or plugged sinuses. It will bubble and help to kill the bacteria. Hold for a few minutes then blow your nose into a tissue.
9. If you have a terrible toothache and cannot get to a dentist right away, put a capful of 3% peroxide into your mouth and hold it for ten minutes several times a day. The pain will lessen greatly.
10. And of course, if you like a natural look to your hair, spray the 50/50 solution on your wet hair after a shower and comb it through. You will not have the peroxide burnt blonde hair like the hair dye packages, but more natural highlights if your hair is a light brown, reddish, or dirty blonde. It also lightens gradually so it's not a drastic change.
11. Put half a bottle of peroxide in your bath to help rid boils, fungus, or other skin infections.
12. You can also add a cup of peroxide instead of bleach to a load of whites in your laundry to whiten them. If there is blood on clothing, pour directly on the soiled spot. Let it set for a minute, then rub it and rinse with cold water. Repeat if necessary.
13. I use peroxide to clean my mirrors with, and there is no smearing which is why I love it so much for this.
I could go on and on. It is a little brown bottle no home should be without! With prices of most necessities rising, I'm glad there's a way to save tons of money in such a simple, healthy manner.

Loud vs Quite...

Loud in the dictionary says:
–Adjective
1. (of sound) strongly audible; having exceptional volume or intensity: loud talking; loud thunder; loud whispers.

I am a very loud person I have known this about myself my whole life. I grew up with parents telling me to be quite, to turn the volume down. It made me so mad to hear that from them. But now that I am older I realize that Yes I am a loud person I am not quite very often if at all. With this said...

The other day someone I love and admire was telling a story and his thought happen to be of me being loud- I did not take this offensively or get mad, because it's true. It just made me think, before this happened I was thinking to myself a little while ago it would be funny to make a post, of my name never in the same sentence as quite. But this is not so funny anymore, because I know several people who are just as loud as me and it drives me crazy that they are so loud. I know I know what you are thinking I can't get bugged or mad because I am just as loud as them.

Anyways, I am posting this today to remind myself that it's fine to be loud as long as it's approprate. For all you loud people out there just remember to be quite at times. :)

Love, The loudest M

Successfull Bling Party!

We had a great time out our bling party we had a lot of fun picking different colors for our hair and watching each of us show off our new bling. I got purple this time, it does not show up as much as my red did but I really like it. Krystal loves her pink and Marissa really likes her blue. I think it was tons of fun and we all had a great time. Michelle is already talking about the "next" time she gets hers done. So I think we all liked it a lot.

BLING STRANDS...

My new favorite thing ever! It's "Bling" for hair. I found a girl who puts these in hair and I did it. I LOVE IT! It's so fun, they tie it into your hair on 3 strands of hair and they fall out in a month or so. You can wash, comb, curl, flat iron, anything with them in. I am getting a new color when mine fall out. But for now it's the funnest thing. I love to watch people's faces when they see something in my hair sparkle. :) so FUN!! So Leisy I think you should get some of these then you wont have to color your hair just add a little bling. The picture does not show it well enough but you get the idea. I have between 15 and 20 in my hair. I love them, I got mine for super cheap, but I heard in hair places they charge a pretty penny. I am going to have a bling party-the girl is going to come and "Bling" all my friends and sisters hair. If you want some bling let me know, you can come to the party!

I choose the red, sense I have red highlights.
I'll get a better picture and post later.

Catch up

2008- went by so fast. I can't believe it's the middle of January 2009 and I feel like February is around the corner already.

Here's to 2008- it was a great year for me. I did a lot of fun things and I am very excited for 2009.

I got myself a new iPod I bought myself an early Christmas present and I love it! I have great friends at work who hooked me up with movies and thousands of songs. I got the 120GB Classic What can I say it is AWESOME!

For Christmas I also got an Nintendo DS Ice Blue- I LOVE IT! I Love to play games and I bought myself a lot of fun ones. I think I have played every night since I got it. I LOVE IT!

I made a lot of goals for myself for 2009 and I hope to keep them all. I was going to write them down on the Blog, but I have decided to keep them to myself so if I don't do one or break it I wont feel as bad. But anyways I hope everyone made goals this year and plan on keeping them.

I have to give a talk in church tomorrow and I am scared silly. The only best part about it, is my mom works and my dad has to go to his BYU ward and so no one will be there to hear it. This makes me so happy. I get more nervous when there are people there I know. So any ways wish me luck. I wish I liked to speak in front of people better. But on well- life goes on.

That's all for now- I will try to get pictures and have a great story to tell one of these days. Love for now!
